The overall implementation of the project was reviewed, with the greatest attention paid to technical activities.
In the period 27-28.11.2024, EDG West successfully passed a final technical audit by independent auditors from the European Commission in connection with the implementation of the activities under the project “Life for Birds”, LIFE16 NAT/BG/000612.
The audit was carried out on the territory of the operational center “Levski” – specially protected areas “Belenski ostrov”, “Svishtovsko-Belenska nisina” and “Obnova”. The overall implementation of the project was checked, with the greatest attention paid to the technical activities related to the direct reduction of bird mortality, namely:
– Securing risky power lines; – Placing diverters; – Securing risky stork nests by lifting them onto platforms; – Installation on site of the bird-safe console developed under the project.
The conclusion of the European Commission auditors is that the planned activities in the project have been implemented in full, with very high quality and no discrepancies were found.
The project “Life for Birds”, LIFE16 NAT/BG/000612 is the first project with European funding for EDG West. According to the plan, it was supposed to end at the end of 2022, but due to unforeseen circumstances with the Covid-19 pandemic, its deadline was extended after permission from the European Commission by two years.
