The Life for Birds project won the Energy Globe award
CEZ Distribution Bulgaria is the national winner for Bulgaria of the most important environmental awards worldwide – “Energy Globe”. The project of the Life for Birds company impressed the prestigious jury with the implemented activities and implemented measures to minimize the unnatural death of endangered birds caused by a collision with the electricity distribution network.
Selected among projects with – according to the organizers of the competition – “captivating quality and diversity”, “Life for the birds” once again justified the efforts of his team. Implemented jointly with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, within its framework experts analyze which are the most risky power lines for birds, determining and implementing the necessary measures for their safety.
In 2019 alone, 355 platforms for raising stork nests have been installed on the territory of Western Bulgaria, 459 poles have been secured and 138 marking elements have been installed along the network. Work is also underway to create a prototype for a bird safety pole, which will be made available for use by other electricity distribution network operators.
The World Energy Globe is the most famous award in the world, according to a study by the American agency Arthur D. Little. In 2020, participants with 2,500 completed projects from over 180 countries took part in the prestigious competition. All projects whose cause is the protection of the environment can participate. The categories are Life, Earth, Fire, Water, Air and the Youth category – future oriented.
