As part of the Life for Birds project, the company also secured 619 ladders
CEZ Distribution Bulgaria installs 636 platforms for stork nests within the Life for Birds project. Caring for storks is part of the company’s policy on biodiversity conservation. In addition to protecting birds, the platforms help protect the environment by preventing fires and reducing the number of power outages caused by their contact with the grid.
As part of the bird protection activities, the company secured 619 poles. In order to minimize the risk of birds colliding with the power lines, safety and marking elements are installed on the network.
In order to promote the importance of the initiative, the painting of the Drava substation, located in the town of Vratsa, started in October. “The aim is to promote the need to protect endangered bird species through urban art. The artists from “140 Ideas”, with extensive experience in this field, successfully transformed the substation, painting it with our favorite white storks, “said Maria Georgieva, project manager” Life for Birds “at CEZ Distribution. Improving the urban environment by painting electrical equipment has traditions in the company. As part of the Life for Birds project, electrical panels have already been painted in Pernik, Vratsa and Montana.
“Life for Birds” is implemented jointly with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds / BSPB /. The basis of the project is the provision of opportunities for safe nesting. The activities are carried out in 19 specially protected areas under the EU Birds Directive, part of the Natura 2000 network. BSPB identifies the important places for birds and their habitats, which guarantees the purposeful implementation of the activities of CEZ Distribution. The project is implemented with the assistance of the European Commission under the Life Program of the European Union. Conflict reduction activities for power birds will continue until the end of 2022.
