The company won in the category “Environmental Investor”
CEZ Distribution received the first prize in the category “Investor in the Environment” at the annual awards for responsible business at the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum. The Life for Birds project, implemented jointly with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds / BSPB /, was rewarded. In the framework of the initiative, experts analyze which are the most risky for the endangered bird species electricity facilities, identifying and implementing the necessary measures for their safety.
“We thank the jury and the BBLF for the recognition. Such awards justify the efforts of our team and promote the conservation of biological diversity. Projects such as Life for Birds enable us to combine caring for the environment with our commitment to providing the best service to our customers. We not only protect the lives of birds, but also reduce the risk of fires and accidents caused by birds colliding with power lines. We believe in the importance of the results of our activities and in our contribution to nature conservation” said Karel Kral, CEO of CEZ Bulgaria.
As part of the Life for Birds project, CEZ Distribution has so far secured 680 stork nests and 1002 poles, marked 50 km of the most risky power lines for birds and created a standard for a pole safe for birds that any interested party can obtain.
The CEZ Distribution project with the official title “Conservation of endangered bird species by securing dangerous for them overhead power lines in Natura 2000 protected areas in Western Bulgaria” is a continuation of the long-term environmental policy of the Society for Biodiversity Conservation and is co-financed by the Life Program of the European Union.
